FDOT RESPONSE TO THE CITY FOR PREPARATION
OF UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS
In preparation for the upcoming events to be held in the City (SuperBowl, Miami Intemational Boat
Show, and Pow Wow), the City Administration, along with Commissioner Gottlieb, met with
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) on December 21, 1998. The purpose of the meeting
was to request FDOT's assistance and attention to state roads within the City of Miami Beach,
specifically the replacement of landscaping, replacement of missing or deteriorating signs, the fixing
ofpotholes and completion of the ongoing street lighting replacement that is occurring on Collins
Avenue. At the meeting, a request was made by City Administration for replacement of landscaping
on MacArthur Causeway totalling $88,800; the replacement of landscaping on Julia Tuttle totalling
$57,260; the replacement of landscaping on Collins Avenue for a total of $16,050; and for
replacement of landscaping on Alton Road for a total of $15,930.
On December 24, 1998, the City received confirmation from FDOT that they would fund the
replacement of lost or damaged trees and other plant material on MacArthur and Julia Tuttle
Causeway which total $146,060. Additionally during this week, the City Administration together
with FDOT will be surveying the state roads within the City for potholes and signage replacement
in an effort to correct them prior to the SuperBowl event at the end of this month. A meeting is also
being scheduled with Miami-Dade County to discuss the improvements on Dade County roads
within City limits. The result of that meeting will also be communicated to you.
