97-22437 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 97-22437 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROPRIATING $10,000.00 FROM THE SPECIAL PROJECTSIDONATIONS AND CONTRIBUTIONS ACCOUNT FOR THE GREATER MIAMI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE'S "ONE COMMUNITY ONE GOAL PROJECT". WHEREAS, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce put together over forty-five (4;) economic development organizations and South Florida chambers of commerce to identify sedo 'S of the economy likely to grow and yield jobs; and WHEREAS, as a result of this initiative the "One Community One Goal" project W,lS developed (Project); and WHEREAS, the Project is co-chaired by Metropolitan Dade County Executive MaY'lr Alexander Penelas and Mr. Jay Malina, president of Xebec Trade Finance Corporation; and WHEREAS, the Project has received financial commitments from various municipaliti,:s and organizations; and WHEREAS, the City is an integral part of this Project. BACKGROUND: As part of an economic development initiative, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce p it together over 45 economic development organizations and South Florida chambers of commerce. 0 identify sectors of the economy likely to grow and yield jobs. In part, the project was created n response to the welfare reform measures that will impact South Florida. The project is co-chHin d by Metropolitan Dade County Executive Mayor Alexander Penelas and Mr. Jay Malina, preside It of Xebec Trade Finance Corporation. To date, the "One Community One Goal" project has created task forces to identify what needs 0 be done in order to create jobs in sectors such as international trade, biomedical services, and tIe entertainment industry. Furthermore, the project has recruited volunteers and has received financi 11 commitments from various organizations including the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce at d municipalities such as the City of Coral Gables. The monies collected are used to fund the projec"'s operating budget. The City of Miami Beach is an integral part ofthis project specifically as it relat,:s to the film and entertainment industry.
