Safety / Traffic items discussed • School capacity with CDC guidelines for students update info found at MDCPS website under reopening tab • Contact tracing update deferred • PPE at schools update provided • Baker acting information (Bonce to provide) • Little Kids Rock infusion (new instruments, teacher training, etc..) in 2020-21 discussed • FDOT update of 41st provided • FDOT Back to School safe driving campaign discussed 2. Communication • PTA’s need to send in Zoom meeting dates and logins requested. Motion made see below. • School Board Update/Budget update provided by Dr. Karp. Student Achievement • STEAM Partnerships to be provided once agreement is signed • List of partners working with each schools still under discussion • Afterschool enrichment Biscayne, Fienberg, MBSH update provided • Prepworks utilization next meting • MDCPS high school internships update provided • ADL in 2020-21 agreement signed 4. Parental Involvement/Family Support/Youth and Community Engagement • Pre-Kindergarten Pilot Program update provided – provider website open until January 4, 2021 • GED and ESOL city funded classes well received with 109 residents enrolled utilizing the $30 scholarship • Field use at South Pointe Elementary and MBSH. Biscayne Beach field update and community access update provided. City submitted all agreements for signature. All pending MDCPS • . Beach High field update provided with City accepting all SBAB terms and awaiting signed agreement from MDCPS. 5. Technology • Do we have enough Laptops or tablets for all students in Distance Learning discussed 6. Teacher Recruitment/Retention • How many teachers did we lose this school year in our Feeder Pattern Schools to be provided next meeting • What open Counselors position does the Feeder Pattern have – Bonce provided udpate 7. Health / Mental Health • Mental Health virtual and live access update provided. Requested MDCPS streamline the process for access to allow families to go directly to the mental health professional funded by the city and provided by Trust/Borinquen 9. Adjournment Motion 1 Made by Beverly Heller Second by Judith Berson-Levinson If you are unable to attend, please call Dr. Leslie Rosenfeld, Committee Liaison, at 305/673- 7000 x26923 The Committee for Quality Education requests the Mayor and City Commission urge our Florida State Representatives to ensure public school funding remain the same and be held harmless for the 2020-21 school year whether students are attending at the schoolhouse or virtually. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 12-0 Motion 2 Made by Beverly Heller Second by Lauren Cantor The Committee for Quality Education requests the Mayor and City Commission urge our Florida State Representatives to allow committees/boards the choice to determine how they host public meetings (virtually/in-person) for the remainder of fiscal year 2021.
