CULTURAL ARTS OUNCIL VACANCIES
Date: October 8, 2003
Subject:
Currently, there are two vacancies on the Cultural Arts Council (CAC); both vacancies are a result of
resignations from Kathryn Orosz and Nancy Wolcott respectively. Adhering to the guidelines set
forth in the Ordinance establishing the Council, the CAC's Nominating Committee reviewed and
screened all candidates and subsequently made recommendations to the CAC. The CAC reviewed
the list at their September 5, 2003 meeting and unanimously approved the recommended nominees.
The following list is submitted in alphabetical order for your consideration. Additionally, their
resumes are attached for your review.
. Pamela Brandt
. Jesse Brody
. Pavlova Greber
. Carol Hoffman
. Liliam Lopez
. Michael McManus
Furthermore, it is important to keep in mind that the CAC will have an additional four vacancies to fill
in December when the terms of Chairperson Steve Sauls, Diane Star Heller, Roland Kohen, and
Pauline Winick expire.
Pursuant to Section 2-55(d) of Ordinance No. 97-3075, as amended, establishing the Miami Beach
Cultural Arts Council (Council) "vacancies on the Council shall be filled by the Mayor and City
Commission. In filling any vacancy, the Mayor and City Commission may select a replacement
Council member from a list of three (3) candidates which shall be submitted by the remaining
members of the Council." Further, "the individual members ofthe City Commission may supplement
the Council's suggested list with additional names of candidates or, if neither the candidates on the
Council's suggested list nor the additional names submitted by the individual members of the City
Commission are approved, the Council shall submit an entirely different list" for consideration.
The CAC is anxious to have these appointments made as they have been vacant for several
months. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

[In response to a letter from Steve Sauls about Cultural Arts Council nominations, I
emailed a copy of my resume, along with the note below, to the email address on the
iJJttom of his letter, immediately upon receiving his letter, on July 19. After getting no
trSponse in a week, I emailed again, asking whoever was responsible (or checking the
OJuncil's email to either email me back assuring me that Steve Sauls had received my
Itsume and note, or to forward my emails to him with a request for an acknowledgment,
51 :r could, if necessary, snail-mail my resume by the stated deadline of August 1.
Ihave never received any response whatsoever.
.so 'I am snail-mailing the enclosed resume, even though you all will, I'm afraid, receive it

II, Steve--
Thanks for your letter reo the Council.
My current resume is attached. Please email me back ASAP if you are
unable to open/read the attachment. Since it's an HTML file it should work
jlst fine-- HTML is how I send copy to "New Times", the "New York
limes", and all the Conde Nast publications I write for, with no
Jl'oblems... recently, anyway... despite incompatible computers. But I am
a Mac person, and your City Hall system is probably PC; translation can
be :problematic.
SO, if necessary, I'll snail mail the re~ know.
