Celebrate José Martí’s Legacy
— Thursday, January 23 at 10 a.m. —
WHO/WHAT: Join the City of Miami Beach in celebrating the birth of Cuban national
hero José Martí on Thursday, January 23. Over 160 years later, the

inspire not only Cuban-Americans, but the Latin American population as
a whole.
“We are proud to honor José Martí whose poems and literary passages
reflected the perseverance of the Cuban people,” said Mayor Dan
Gelber. “His timeless words of hope and political freedom still ring true
today.”
Presenting a coveted opportunity for older generations to reflect on his
life and younger generations to learn of his revolutionary work, the
fourthannual celebration will honor Martí’s immense impact.
We must remember not only Jose Marti's legacy but the wisdom he left
behind,” said Gabriel Paez, Chair of the City of Miami Beach Hispanic
Affairs Committee. “As a result, we will honor this great poet by keeping
his legacy alive throughout our city and Miami-Dade County on Thursday
January 23. In the words of Jose Marti, “Day and night I always dream
with open eyes.”
