ALL HANDS ON MIAMI BEACH DAY
Date: October 29, 2003
The purpose of this LTC is to inform you that the Neighborhood Services Department developed
and is promoting "All Hands on Miami Beach Da)/' on November 1st, 2003.
As a result of our involvement in National Civic Participation Week, the City created the
Volunteer Network in order to provide volunteer opportunities for our residents and employees.
The Volunteer Network serves as a link between potential volunteers and local not-for-profit
organizations by matching an organization's specific needs with a volunteer's skills or interests.
The "All Hands on Miami Beach Day" event is a collaborative effort of the City's Volunteer
Network, Girl Scouts/Brownies, Hands on Miami, ECOMB, Florida International School,
Environmental Studies and resident associations and will include two events in Miami Beach.
The first event will have over 100 volunteers and form a community partnership to clean up and
help restore the City's largest park, North Shore Open Space Park. The main focus of this
cleanup is to preserve and enhance the coastal dune system and native vegetation. The project
begins at 9:00 a.m. on site at Collins Avenue and 81st Street and will end at 12:00 p.m. On the
same day, over 200 volunteers will also participate in the "Paint the BoardwalN' project by
painting the boardwalk from 21st to 46th St. This project begins at 9:00 a.m. on site at 27th Street
(boardwalk) and concludes at 1:00 p.m.
November 2nd is an annual day of community service and civic participation for Hands on Miami.
We are supporting their efforts through our project "All Hands on Miami Beach Day". The
partnership with Hands on Miami will enable the City to continue developing programs that
support and increase civic participation through out the City.
The "Hands on Miami" event has several corporate sponsors and generates a countywide
community interest piece. You are invited to participate in either one of these two events as a
show of support to those who are giving their time for the improvement of our environment and
community. There are picnic tables, BBQ pits and interesting walkways in the park with lots to
see and of course, easy access to the beach.
The "All Hands on Miami Beach Day" event is part of my continued commitment to civic
engagement and participation in Miami Beach. If you would like to participate in either of the
November .events, please contact Ramiro Inguanzo, Chief of Staff, at extension 6697.
