A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUIRING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO PROVIDE MIAMI
BEACH ELECTED OFFICIALS WITH ACCESS TO ALL CITY-COLLECTED DATA IN A
TIMELY MANNER TO ENSURE EFFECTIVE, INFORMED, DATA-SUPPORTED
DECISION-MAKING.
WHEREAS, without sufficient information, policymakers risk making decisions based
exclusively on emotional sentiment rather than incorporating data-driven information; and
WHEREAS, Section 2-12(d) of the City Code requires agenda items published in a City
Commission meeting agenda to include sufficient detail and information for the City Commission
and the public to evaluate the items in a reasonable and timely manner and, whenever possible,
endeavor to sufficiently advise the City Commission and the public of the nature of any requested
actions that may be taken on the items; and
WHEREAS, in addition, in order to further aid the Mayor and City Commissioners in
making informed decisions, the City Administration is required,'to the extent possible, to include
a statement briefly describing the estimated or anticipated fiscal impact to the City associated with
the proposed measure, if any; and
WHEREAS, in December 2019, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No.
2019-31098, requiring the City Administration to include relevant Community Satisfaction Survey
results into memoranda prepared for the elected officials in order to enable them to make data-
driven decisions for the welfare, health, and safety of the City's residents; and
WHEREAS, as elected officials are trusted to make intelligent, data-driven decisions, it is
imperative to make all City-collected data accessible to the Mayor and City Commissioners upon
request.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby require the City Administration to provide Miami Beach elected officials with
access to all City-collected data in a timely manner to ensure effective, informed, data-supported
decision-making.
