Middle Beach Recreational Corridor Phase 3- Project Update
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to update the Mayor and City Commission regarding
the status of the Middle Beach Recreational Corridor Phase 3.
On November 6, 2020, the Neighborhood and Quality of Life Committee held a discussion
regarding the project schedule and overall status of the Middle Beach Recreational Corridor
(beachwalk), Phase Ill, G.O. bond project. Following tho discussion, the Committee asked that
the Administration provide an update, via L TC, approximately 90 days following that meeting.
As of the date of this L TC, the project is approximately 65% completed. The project consists of
the construction of an on-grade ADA compliant pedestrian paver walkway, with bollard lights,
landscaping and irrigation. The path extends from approximately 24th Street to 46th
Street. Exotic dune vegetation will be removed and replaced with dune enhancements such as
native dune vegetation species and beach compatible dune fill will be provided for the
landscaping. The proposed pathway lighting will meet Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission's
marine turtle nesting requirements.
This project is comprised of eleven (11) street ends and three (3) beachwalk segments. The
southern segment extends from 24th Street to 29th Street, the middle segment extends from 30th
Street to 32nd Street and the northern segment extends from 36th Street to 46th Street.
The installation of the concrete bands, light bollards, dune planting, security camera infrastructure
and 90% of the concrete pavers have been completed within the southern segment. The
installation of the concrete bands, light bollard bases, dune planting, 65% of the security camera
infrastructure and 75% of the stabilized paver base has been completed within the middle
segment. The installation of the concrete bands, light bollard bases, dune planting, 75% of the
security camera infrastructure and 75% of the concrete pavers has been completed within the
northern segment.
The contractor is working at all the street ends except 26th Street, 37th Street and 43rd Street,
which are currently occupied by the contractor for staging and construction access points.
Work progress at the street ends varies by location. Underground utilities and foundations have
been completed at 25th Street, 39th Street, 40th Street and 42nd Street. Portions of the
underground utilities and foundations have been completed at 27th Street, 31st Street, 38th Street
and 41st Street.
With the exception of the street ends, the contractor anticipates opening the southern segment in
March, and the middle and northern segments in April. The project is scheduled to be substantially
complete, including the street ends, in June 2021. so ~~ave any questions, please contact David Martinez at 305-673-7071.
