SUBJECT: SETTING A TENTATIVE MILLAGE RATE; DATE, TIME, AND PLACE OF THE
FIRST PUBLIC HEARING. FLORIDA STATUTE, CH 200.065
In order to comply with Florida Statute, Ch 200.065, we are required to: 1)
set a tentative millage rate, 2) calculate the "rolled-back" rate, and 3) set
the date, time and place of the first public hearing. Listed below are some
guidelines that will assist in accomplishing this.
1 The proposed millage rate for the City may be up to 10.000 mills.
2 The calculated "rolled-back" rate is 8.777 mills and is defined as the
millage rate which would provide the same property taxes as was levied the
previous year, exclusive of new construction, additions and deletions.
The proposed millage rate may be lowered at the end of the first public
hearing. If the millage rate adopted at the first public hearing is
higher than the proposed, the Property Appraiser, at the City' s expense,
shall notify, by first-class mail each taxpayer within the jurisdiction of
his taxes under the tentatively adopted millage rate and of his taxes
under the previously proposed millage rate.
3 The first public hearing must be between August 30 and September 13, 1986.
It shall be held after 5:00 p.m. if scheduled on a day other than a
Saturday. It shall not be held on a Sunday. The hearing dates scheduled
by the School Board and the County shall not be utilized by the City.
