Adopt the Resolution.
BACKGROUND
The Festival of the Arts is an important ongoing event which has evolved from a local street show
to one of the largest and most prestigious shows on the East Coast. Previously held on the stretch
of Miami Beach known as the "Fabulous Fifties", on Collins Avenue, the Festival now has a new
home - the 30-acre North Shore Open Space Park. The 2000 Festival of the Arts will be held on
February 5-6, 2000. It is anticipated that the Festival will attract over 150 artists and over 35,000
attendees.
ANALYSIS
The Festival of the Arts was originally administered entirely by funds generated from area sponsors,
artists and vendor fees. Following the relocation of this event to North Beach in 1995, additional
funding for advertising and promotions as well as a search for new area sponsors became necessary.
The event is still primarily funded by artist and vendor fees, sponsors and donations, as available. The
1999-2000 Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council funding ensures the advertising and promotions for
attendance at the 2000 Festival of the Arts.
CONCLUSION
The Administration recommends approval of the resolution.
