SUBJECT: Motion from the Police Citizen Relations Committee
March 16, 2021 Teams Phone Conference Meeting
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission (L TC) is to inform the Mayor and the Commission a
motion made by the Police Citizen Relations Committee at their March 16, 2021 Teams
Teleconference Meeting.
Background:
The Miami Beach Police Department ("MBPD") continually aspires to address crime and
community concerns through innovation and positive partnerships with the community. To support
the public safety goals of MBPD, it is the purpose of the Police/Citizens Relations Committee
("Committee") to, in part, endorse programs that will enhance the well-being of residents and
visitors. The following motion was made at the March 16, 2021 meeting of the Police Citizen
Relations Committee:
Motion #1 Supporting items R7A and R7I-Additional Resources for MBPD:
A motion of the Police/Citizens Relations Committee expressing strong support for items
R7 A and R7I, allocating necessary funding for public safety initiatives which the Committee
has advocated for over the past two year specifically, as indicated in the resolutions:
- $1.5 million for the real-time crime center
- $180k annual funding for two non-sworn positions for the real time crime center,
17 additional sworn positions (15 police officers and 2 sergeants) for enhanced
staffing dedicated to the AOCO, and
- The accelerated installation of more security cameras.
We urge that the funding be made available to the Miami Beach Police Department as soon
