SUBJECT: Calendar of Earth Month Celebrations
I am happy to announce that Earth Month is here! The City will be celebrating all month-long.
Together with our community partners, we will be hosting events to educate our residents, visitors,
and staff regarding the beauty of our natural resources and the importance of protecting our
environment.
• Thursday, April 1-Sea Turtle Season
April 1-- October 31
Sea Turtle season is officially here! Multiple city departments are collaborating to help
protect our favorite marine friends. The community is encouraged to reduce the impacts
to sea turtles by switching to sea turtle friendly lighting, closing blinds or curtains at
nights, and to keep a distance from sea turtles and their nests.

• Wednesday, April 7 - Sustainachella: Energizing with Solar
Zoom Virtual Workshop - 12:00PM to 1 :00PM
In partnership with Solar United Neighbors (SUN) and Dream in Green, this workshop
will cover the importance of renewable energy, the launch of the SUN Solar Co-op
program, and how property owners can protect the environment while saving money.
Participants will receive a kit valued at over $50.00 with items to save on energy.

• Wednesday, April 7 - We-Lab STEM Educational Workshop
Zoom Virtual Workshop - 3:00PM to 4:00PM
Hosted by our partner Dream in Green, the Ocean Conservancy will speak on careers
in STEM, with a focus on environmentalism. Students will be invited to learn how their
passion for the environment and conservation can be integrated into their future careers
such as law, marketing, events, and research. Community service hours will be
available for students that participate.

• Friday, April 16- Sustainachella: Greening your Home
Zoom Virtual Workshop - 12:00PM to 1 :00PM
Together with the City of Nashville and Maypop Building, we will discuss sustainable
architecture, construction, and real estate. The workshop will include information on
how property owners can make their homes greener by implementing upgrades that

range from large projects to small, easy fixes and property values can increase with
these sustainable practices.

• Saturday, April 17-Dune Restoration
36 Street Beachwalk -- 8:30 AM to 12:00PM
The Surfrider Foundation will lead a volunteer dune restoration event in middle beach.
The restoration will include the removal of invasive species within this unique coastal
habitat. Restorations help stabilize the dunes and improve overall coastal resilience by
allowing native species to thrive. Volunteers welcome!
• Monday, Ap ril 19 to Friday, April 23 - 2021 Biden International Climate Summit
Virtual Campaign
The Biden International Climate Summit is set to take place on April 23 and April 24.
The Carbon Cities Neutral Alliance is planning a national campaign leading up to the
summit. Cities across the U.S. including Miami Beach will have coordinated messaging
telling stories of local climate efforts.
• Thursday, April 22 - Earth Day at Miami Beach Botanical Garden
Miami Beach Botanical Gardens (2000 Convention Center Drive) - 5:30PM to 8:30PM
The Miami Beach Botanical Garden's (MBBG) will be hosting an Earth Day celebrations
which will include a plant give-away, yoga, and a social distanced movie night on lawn
of the garden. Attendees will learn more about the many initiatives the City and MBBG
have partnered on including composting, native landscaping, and pollinators.

• Friday, April 23 - Sustainachella: Biscayne Bay Defenders
Virtual -- 12:00PM to 1 :00PM
Together with our partner Miami Waterkeeper, we will provide a virtual training for the
community on the state of Biscayne Bay and how to protect it. Topics will include how to
avoid, identify, and report pollutants as well as other hazards that can impact this vital
natural resource.

Our partner, Debris Free Oceans, together with the City, will be hosting a webinar to
showcase how city governments are promoting plastic-free lifestyles through policy
initiatives, local business recognition, and community education. The panel includes
representatives from North Bay Village, Fort Lauderdale, and Hollywood. Other guests
include representatives from Oceana.

• Friday, April 30- Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony & Proclamation
Normandy Shores Park (2401 Biarritz Drive) - 2:00PM
Miami Beach will celebrate Arbor Day with a proclamation and through the planting of
several trees in Normandy Shores Park. This ceremony will promote the importance of
the urban forest and will re-qualify the city to receive the Tree City USA designation.
Miami Beach has held this designation for 14 years, which is a testament to the efforts
of our community's hard work to protect our vital tree canopy.

• Friday, April 30 - Community Tree Giveaway *Registration required*
Registration Opens after the Planting Ceremony
In continuation of the Arbor Day celebrations, the City will host a tree giveaway event.
Registration for this event will be launched after the planting ceremony. The first 100
residents that register will be eligible to have a tree personally delivered to their home
by the Urban Forestry Division. Deliveries will be carried out during the month of May
and tree options will include multiple native fruit and flowering trees.

• Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25 - ReThink Miami Beach (Earth Month
Edition)
Lummus Park at 12" Street- 11:00AM to 4:00PM Subject to change
As part of a series of events hosted by the Tourism and Culture Department and IDEKO
Productions, this weekend long activation will celebrate earth month with activities for
everyone. Programming will include yoga for kids, art installations, hands on painting
activities, live performances, and a beach cleanup with Volunteercleanup.org.
