FDOT SR112/I-195/JULIA TUTTLE CAUSEWAY BUS-ON-SHOULDER PROJECT
The purpose of this Letter To Commission (LTC) is to provide an update on the Florida
Department of Transportation (FDOT) Julia Tuttle Causeway Bus-on-Shoulder Project.
In July 2018, the City Commission adopted a resolution urging FDOT to accelerate all
necessary roadway improvements to the inside shoulders of the Julia Tuttle Causeway in order
to allow for the implementation and operation of the Beach Express North Bus Express Rapid
Transit (BERT) service. BERT service consists of branded buses operating limited stop service
on shoulders or dedicated transit lanes, where feasible, to reduce travel time and help ensure
service schedule reliability. To facilitate the future BERT service along the inside shoulders of
the Julia Tuttle Causeway, FDOT has initiated a design project and will be hosting a public
meeting to obtain community input. Below are the FDOT meeting details:
Wednesday April 14, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

• replacing pavement markings, overhead signage, and roadway safety features
• installing bus-on-shoulder signs and markings
• removing and replacing existing markings on the bridge decks
Construction is expected to begin in August 2022 and last about one year. Attached is the
FDOT project fact sheet. Additional updates will be provided via LTC.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
