SUBJECT: Hispanic Affairs Committee Motions
The Purpose of this Letter to the Commission (LTC) is to inform the Commission of three (3)
Motions passed by the Hispanic Affairs Committee during their April 8, 2021 meeting.
Members Present: Chair Gabriel Paez, Vice Chair Grace Calvani, Rosary Falero Plana, Angel
Triana and Allyson Fonte
Members Absent: Liliana Martinez and Victor Pulido
Staff Present: Leonor Hernandez, Committee Liaison
Motion:
A Motion was made to make a recommendation to the City Commission and Interim City Manager
and its successor, that should a curfew be necessary in the future in any section of South Beach,
it include of all South Beach, from 23rd street to South Pointe and Ocean Dive to West Avenue.

Motion seconded by Allyson Fonte
Motion unanimously approved by all members present by telephone
Motion:
As per C4 R / DUAL REFERRAL TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND QUALITY OF LIFE
COMMITTEE AND THE HISPANIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE - DISCUSSION REGARDING
RENAMING A PUBLIC STREET AFTER SIMON BOLIVAR.

ACTION: Item referred. Eric Carpenter and Leonor Hernandez to place on the Committee
Agendas. Jose Gonzalez to handle.
A Motion was made as follows:
To rename 22nd Street from Washington to Collins as Simon Bolivar Way. As a second choice,
a street in the North Beach area.

Motion:
At the request of Former Hispanic Affairs Committee Chair, Alex J. Fernandez, during the 4/8/21
Hispanic Affairs Committee Meeting a discussion was held in support of Alex J. Fernandez’
Nomination of Former Miami Beach City Manager and Resident, Jorge M. Gonzalez in the
Category of Civic Leader to the 2021 Miami Beach Hall of Fame. A Motion to support the
Nomination was made. Chair Grace Calvani would communicate the Committee’s support of the
Nomination to the Miami Beach Hall of Fame Committee.
