CULTURAL ARTS COUNCIL VACANCIES

As of December 31, 2003, there will be six vacancies on the Cultural Arts Council (CAC). Two are the
result of resignations from Nancy Wolcott and Clark Reynolds. The remaining four vacancies are due to
term limits for Roland Kohen, Pauline Winick, Steve Sauls, and Diane Star Heller. Adhering to the
guidelines set forth in the Ordinance establishing the Council, the CAC's Nominating Committee reviewed
and screened all applications and subsequently made recommendations to the CAC. The CAC reviewed
the list at their November 21,2003 meeting and unanimously approved the recommended nominees.
The following list is submitted in alphabetical order for your consideration. Additionally, their resumes are
attached for your review.

Pursuant to Section 2-55(d) of Ordinance No. 97-3075, as amended, establishing the Miami Beach
Cultural Arts Council (Council) "vacancies on the Council shall be filled by the Mayor and City Commission.
In filling any vacancy, the Mayor and City Commission may select a replacement Council member from a
list of thrcc (3) candidates which shall be submitted by the remaining members of the Council." Further,
"the individual members of the City Commission may supplement the Council's suggested list with
additional names of candidates or, if neither the candidates on the Council's suggested list nor the
additional names submitted by the individual members of the City Commission are approved, the Council
shall submit an entirely different list" for consideration.
It is important to note that a City Commission Workshop has been scheduled for January 8, 2004 at 3:00
pm to discuss results of several recently completed studies and the City's future strategic plan for cultural
affairs. It is my recommendation that appointments be made subsequent to the Commission Workshop.
