SANITATION SERVICE ENHANCEMENT AND NEW SERVICE
This LTC is to inform you of two service enhancements to be provided by the Public Works
Department, Sanitation Division.
1. Enhanced services on Washington Avenue Effective December 15, 2003.
The Division increased its service to the business district on Washington Avenue from 5th
to 6th Streets. Two employees have been assigned to perform litter control and other
miscellaneous tasks, Thursday through Mondays during the hours of 2:30 - 11:00 p.m.
This results in equal service as that provided on Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive.
2. Canal Cleanup
The Division will commence the canal cleanup program January 2004. A 27- foot pontoon
barge and a crew of three will be used to remove debris and litter from the waterways.
The barge is presently being modified for the task. The initial sweep will be through the
Biscayne Point Canal. The Teen Job Corps will be assisting City crews with cleanup of the
shoreline. Our experience in this initial sweep will determine the scope of work and a
schedule for cleaning up other waterways within the City. I will keep you info~r~ed as to the
progress of the program.
These service enhancements and improvements by the Public Works Department are in
keeping with the "safe and clean" goals stated in the mission of the Department and the
city.
If you/~ any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me.
