A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, STANDING IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE
PEOPLE OF ISRAEL, AND WITH JEWISH COMMUNITIES ALL
OVER THE WORLD, IN MOURNING THE TERRIBLE TRAGEDY
AT MOUNT MERON.
WHEREAS,the holiday of Lag BaOmer is one of the happiest days on the calendar
for Jews around the world and a time of mass celebrations; and
WHEREAS, every year, tens of thousands of people gather at Mount Meron in
northern Israel; and
WHEREAS, on April 30, 2021, an estimated 100,000 people attended in
celebration; and
WHEREAS, however, the festive gathering at Mount Meron turned into one of
Israel's worst-ever tragedies, with at least 45 people crushed to death and at least 150
people injured in a stampede; and
WHEREAS, the loss of life among worshipers practicing their faith is
heartbreaking; and
WHEREAS, the people of the United States and Israel are bound together by our
families, our faiths, and our histories, and stand together during this great tragedy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and the City
hereby stand in solidarity with the people of Israel, and with Jewish communities around
the world, in mourning the terrible tragedy at Mount Meron.
