Boardwalk improvementsSUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO BEACH BOARDWALK
Miami Beach, May 23, 2021
NOBE NEWS informal survey among fellow bikers and readers

CRIME PREVENTION / SAFETY
1. A “Pole Mounted Emergency Communication System” at least every block and very specially through
mid-Beach, where there are no exits on to the street, it is dark at night, and if assaulted, you’re trapped
without a escape route.
2. Exits to Collins throughout Mid-Beach. The City might try to negotiate with selected buildings for
emergency passages.
3. Improved lighting at night outside Turtle Season
HEALTH PREVENTION / USER FRIENDLY FEATURES
4. Shady trees/ Canopy through mid-Beach and North Beach.
5. Water Fountains (free) every so often.
6. Benches, particularly through mid-Beach (there’s nothing there)
INFRASTRUCTURE AND BEAUTIFICATION
7. Bike Racks throughout and particularly at intersections.
8. Ground markers for all street crossings (street numbers at all intersections)
9. Drainage (whose idea it was to just pour concrete?) so it does not stay flooded
10. Western walls’ and curve’s beautification (e.g. wall covering plants, flower beds, shady trees) between
43rd and 63rd.
MULTIMODAL CIRCULATION
11. No obstacles/furniture in pedestrian/biker way (bare shadeless trunks rendering a whole lane unusable
as south of 63rd, and forcing walkers, strollers, bikers and skaters in both direction on to one lane are
absurd – for that, make the path narrow and plant real trees).
12. Improved Signage. Include the following:
• No motorized vehicles (including scooters)
• Speed limits (to precent racing)
• No unleashed/short leash pets (extremely long leashes are posing a hazard to bikers and skaters)
• Stay on your right side.
• Yield to traffic when entering/crossing
