LETTER TO COMMISSION
June 10, 1999
TO:
FROM:
SUBJECT:
Mayor Neisen O. Kasdin and
Members of the City ommission
Se. rgio Rodriguez
This letter to Commission is to inform you that the lights that illuminate the structure on Monument
Island have been repaired.
The cable that provides power to the Island from the mainland, had been cut in several places by boat
propellers, despite clear signage that requests boaters to stay clear of the area the cable occupies.
Also the light fixtures had been vandalized or removed by people visiting the Island. Last week
Property Management electricians replaced the vandalized lighting fixtures with new ones, and with
the help of a Public Works diver, was able to raise the cable from the Bay floor and replace a 200
lineal foot section that had been damaged. Property Management also set the lighting on a time clock
to allow the lights to come on at dusk and go off at dawn. The fencing that surrounds the structure
and lighting is also currently being repaired.
Max Sklar of the Mayor's Office has been informed of these repairs to respond to any citizen or
group that may have raised concern for the lighting problem on the Island.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me.
