The Attorney General of the United States, William Barr, and the Office of Community Oriented Policing
Services (COPS Office), approved the proposal for the Miami Beach Peer Support Project through the
Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act(LEMHWA) program in the amount of$40,580.00.
The Purpose of the Award is for the City of Miami Beach Police Department to implement a Nutrition
Pilot Program through their Department Wellness Program, called S.T.E.P.P. The awarded grant will
be used to cover the cost of a research analyst, licensed dietician and educational training. The
award started 9/1/2020 and will end 8/31/2022.
During the program, the participants will complete the following tasks:
• Complete a pre-measure screening the first month and a post-measure screening at the sixth (6)
month
o BMI; Blood Pressure; Weight; Waist Circumference(All these measures will be done at the
station)
o Blood Work — LDL & HDL and HBA1 C (Blood Sugar Level). The participant will be
responsible for getting blood work completed twice during the six (6) months.
• Meet with Licensed Dietician during the first month (30 minutes) and at the sixth (6) month
(minutes)
o Licensed Dietician will be available for coaching and questions 6 hours every week as
needed
• Participate and watch an online educational workshop once per week at a time of your choosing
(30 to 45 minutes per workshop/Total of 24 workshops)
• Final Exit interview with staff(15 Minutes)
