Sustainability Committee Motion
Dear Mayor and Honorable City Commission,
The Sustainability Committee met on June 24, 2021 and passed the motions below:
• In support of the City of Miami Beach's goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, and
given that energy use in buildings accounts for more than 65% of greenhouse gas
emissions in Miami Beach, the Sustainability Committee strongly recommends the
Mayor and City Commission adopt a benchmarking policy for all commercial,
government and multi-family properties 20,000 sq ft or above.
• The Sustainability Committee urges the Mayor and City Commission to engage with
leadership from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in Q3 - 2021 to seek
approval for the City and County to lead a shoreline restoration project along the Julia
Tuttle Causeway with mangroves and other enhancements.
Sincerely,
Uu@gava-Will
Margarita Kruyff
Chairwoman, Sustainability Committee
