97-22448 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 97-22448 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF AN APPLICATION! FOR A GRANT, AND, IF FUNDED, AUTHORIZING THE BUDGETING AND EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS, UNDER THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, "LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT" PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the City is eligible to apply for grant funds from the United States Department of Justice under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program; and WHEREAS, the City desires to participate in this program in order to continue funding two positions and acquire much needed equipment such as computer hardVllar"3 and software. WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice has funds available for t1e Program; and WHEREAS, the total estimated funds for this project are $453,361.00, of which $408,066 will be funded by the United States Department of Justice and the remaining $45,295.00 will be funded by the City from the Police Confiscations Account. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City of Miami Beach Police Department, through the Office of the City Manager, is authorized and directed to make application to the United States Department of Justice for grant funding under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant' Program and, if funded, to budget and expend funds under the grant. Section 2. The City certifies that it will accept the terms and conditions set forth in the Project Agreement for any assistance awarded under the proposal for grant funds, and that it is in complete accord with the proposal and any plans and specifications thereto, unless prior approval for any change has been received. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION Approve the Resolution. BACKGROUND The Police Department is eligible to receive funds under the United States Department (.f Justice "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" program. This is the second year the Pc lic 3 Department will receive funds under this program. The total estimated funds for this project are $453,361.00, of which $408,066.00 will b3 funded by the United States Department of Justice and the remaining $45,295.00 will b 3 funded by the City from the Police Confiscations account. The grant funds will be availabl:l on October 1, 1997. The grant funds will be used to fund three non-sworn support positions ($174,000. JO I, purchase equipment ($95,000.00), and fund supplemental overtime for crime preventio1 programs, such as youth and community policing efforts, throughout the city ($184.361. DO I.
