Heritage Tree Program

Heritage Tree Designation Sec.46-63
Any specimen tree shown to have unique or intrinsic value may be
proposed for Heritage Tree Designation as long as the following criteria is
met.
Tree has been shown to be in good condition by a Certified Arborist. If so, the
proposed heritage tree must possess on of the following.
1.It is a historic tree with documented historical significance.
2.The tree is an exemplary representation of species' characteristics and of high value
to the community because of its unique characteristic or species type.
3.The tree is a Championship Tree within the state or national register.

Heritage Tree.

Non-Specimen Trees/Palms
•Shall be preserved during any
proposed construction.
•If proposed construction impacts
non-specimen Trees/Palms,
these resources must be
relocated if deemed to be in
good condition.
•Mitigation is required if non-
specimen tree/palm is
removed.

may need to be redesign in
order to preserve these
resources. If redesign is not
feasible, trees/palms must be
relocated if deemed to be in
good condition.
•Mitigation is required if
specimen tree/palm is
removed.

Heritage Trees
•Shall be preserved during any

•Heritage trees may only be
removed after an Arborist
report is conducted
demonstrating that removal is
necessary to avoid an
immediate peril to life and or
property.
•Proposed work MUST be
redesign in order to preserve
Heritage Trees.
•Relocation is a last resort.
