Hudak, City Manager� �.fo r DATE: August 23, 2021 SUBJECT: Brittany Bay Park -Project Update The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide information to the Mayor and City Commission regarding the status of the Brittany Bay Park Project, formerly known as Indian Creek Park, located at 6430 Indian Creek Drive. The project has replaced 600 linear feet of seawall with a new concrete cap, and installed 400 linear feet of concrete retaining seatwall (the concrete cap is combined with a concrete walkway). A permitted living shoreline area, with an accessible overlook (viewing platform), was not constructed. The project has been expanded to cover a general renovation of the park. On August 23, 2018, the City issued notice to proceed to consultant Brindley Pieters & Associates, Inc. for the preparation of construction documents to renovate the park. The project includes the living shoreline area with the overlook as a part of the renovation of the park, and provides new lighting, new exercise equipme nt, and concrete walkways (Attachment A). The existing seawall adjacent to the living shoreline shall be reinforced on the water side with riprap (boulders), and additional mangrove trees and other native, resilient wetland plant species shall be planted. The overlook will allow park patrons to walk from the park to the existing seawall's edge, while additional landscaping, trees and shrubs shall be provided throu ghout the park to create a lush environment for park patrons (Attachment B). Permits have been obtained from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Miami Dade County DERM, City of Miami Beach Building Department and Urban Forestry Division. Bids for construction were received on April 2, 2021, and on May 12, 2021, the City Commission approved an award to the successful bidder, Florida Construction and Engineering Inc. Construction activities are anticipated to commence the week of August 23, 2021, and the park, including the 8 parking spaces, will be closed for approximately 9 months of construction. The project received partial funding from the G.O. Bond Infrastructure Project: Seawalls and Shorelines, and from The Nature Conservancy.
