SUBJECT: Dade Blvd. Force Main Rupture
A sewage force main in the vicinity of Dade Blvd and Purdy Ave. has, over the past year,
exhibited a series of ruptures. The latest rupture, which occurred yesterday at
approximately 4:30 PM, affected a 12-inch section of pipe that traversed Dade Blvd. at
the eastern end of the Venetian Causeway. This is the third rupture of the sewage force
main in the same general location in the last 30 days.
The Public Works department is currently working to implement immediate corrective
actions to repair the force main. The repair will entail securing the force main by
replacing the broken section of pipe . Currently, we expect the road closure to remain in
effect until Saturday, October 2nd . All pertinent agencies have been notified in addition
to communicating with our residents through email, Twitter, and other social media.
Pedestrian, bicyclists and motor bikes are allowed to traverse the area . Bicyclists and
motorbikes are required to dismount. Access is only available on the south side of the
road.
In addition, the Public Works Department is preparing an emergency procurement to
replace approximately 2,700 LF of pipe along Dade Blvd which is in poor condition and
has suffered multiple ruptures in the past 24 months.
While the emergency procurement is being expedited, the global shortage of raw
material is creating significant lead times. It is expected that the emergency project will
commence in the first quarter of 2022.
Until the force main is replaced, the Public Works Department will continue to monitor
the force main.
