SUBJECT : Appointment of Amy Knowles as Interim Environment & Sustainability Director
The purpose of this L TC is to update the Commission on the status of a key personnel
appointment due to the vacancy created by the departure of the Director of the Environment &
Sustainability Department.
I have asked Chief Resilience Officer, Amy Knowles to assist me by serving as the Interim Director
while we conduct the search for a permanent replacement. Amy will continue to serve in her role
as Chief Resilience Officer and will provide oversight and guidance to the Department during the
transition. Amy has gained significant institutional knowledge as a valuable member of the City
for the last five years, serving as Deputy Resilience Officer for four. Amy has well-rounded
government experience including leadership roles at Miami-Dade County and the City of Fort
Lauderdale, ranging from environmental protection to resilience planning. Amy holds a Bachelor
Degree in Environmental Studies, Public Policy, Administration and Law from Binghamton
University and a Master in Business Administration from the University of Miami.
I have worked closely with Amy for more than a year and know that her professionalism and
expertise will serve us well during this transition period. Please join me in thanking Amy for
agreeing to take on this additional role while we find our next Director.
We are also fortunate to have an outstanding team of professionals in the Department who will
maintain day to day operations and further the mission of climate change mitigation and sea level
rise adaptation initiatives that enhance our natural environment, protect and preserve our urban
forest, and increase communitywide sustainability. I am grateful for their expertise and
commitment, and I want to recognize and thank them for the job they do.
