NO. LTC# LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Honorable Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of the City Commission
FROM, Alina T. Hudak, City Manag•0-f #
DATE : November 3, 2021
SUBJECT: Closure of Marine Patrol Building
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide the Mayor and City Commission with an
update on the recent closure of the Marine Patrol building located at Maurice Gibb Park .
On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, City staff were informed by structural engineers Douglas Wood
Associates, Inc that the present conditions of the concrete columns in this facility were potentially
unstable.
The engineering firm, subconsultant to MC Harry Architects, were on site doing an assessment
in preparation for a General Obligation Bond project at this facility,
As a matter of public safety, City personnel have secured the perimeter of the facility.
Additionally, the Building Department has inspected the facility and determined that the building
needed to be vacated until proper shoring was completed.
The Facilities and Fleet Department is working to install appropriate shoring to the building.
Shoring is expected to commence this week. Thereafter, the Department will engage contractors
to provide temporary repairs to the columns, pursuant to plans provided by Douglas Wood
Associates. Repairs conducted will be certified by the appropriate structural engineer.
Further updates on these repairs will be provided as we gather additional information.
