Miami Beach to Light Up Green in
Recognition of National Mental Health Awareness Month
— Miami Beach City Hall along with other local landmarks will show support for the
national movement —
Miami Beach, FL – Miami Beach City Hall will be among a number of local landmarks that will
be bathed in green light starting at sunset tonight through Saturday May 22, 2021 to support
Mental Health Awareness Month and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
“The illumination of Miami Beach City Hall will coincide with the first virtual mental health walk
in Miami-Dade this Saturday,” Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak explained. “The
event is being led by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, which strives to reduce stigma
toward the mentally ill. That’s a particularly relevant topic this year as we emerge from a global
pandemic that has left so many people feeling isolated and vulnerable.”
Anyone wishing to join the NAMIWalks Your Way Miami-Dade virtual event on Saturday can
decide how they want to participate — from walking on a treadmill at home to walking around
outside in their neighborhood. They can also practice yoga or create a painting. Miami-Dade
organizers plan to livestream Saturday’s opening ceremony.
