Applications Open for Future Leaders Climate Summit
— Next generation leaders will develop local action plans and pledge to work with their
local elected officials back home —
Miami Beach, FL – Applications are being accepted for the upcoming Future Leaders Climate
Summit 2022 in which some 100 participants between the ages of 18-30 will discuss climate
policy, communications, advocacy and individual action in conjunction with the ‘Aspen Ideas:
Climate’ event from March 3-7, 2022 on Miami Beach.
“This is the moment for us to empower the next generation of climate leaders,” Miami Beach
Mayor Dan Gelber said.
The “Aspen Ideas: Climate” event, which represents a collaborative effort between the Aspen
Institute and City of Miami Beach, will focus on global and local solutions to the climate crisis,
bringing together policymakers, scientific experts, business leaders, innovators, artists, young
leaders and the public.
The event is expected to draw participants from around the world with breakout and roundtable
sessions and feature tours of local and historic resilience points of interest as well as fashion,
food, art and music activities. Aspen Ideas: Climate is designed to offer the public a chance to
interact, learn and collaborate with thinkers and doers whose actions are critical to addressing
our collective future around the realities of a changing climate.
Working with experts and fellow participants, future leaders will develop local action plans and
make pledges to work with their local elected officials back home to encourage action.
“Climate change is a multigenerational crisis that requires a multigenerational approach for
effective solutions,” added Nikki DeVignes, director of the Future Leaders Initiative at the
Aspen Institute. “Our best hope is to immediately amplify the voices of those who are designing
these solutions and who will be in position to implement climate policy in the next 20 to 30
years. By redefining what it means to be a leader and giving our young people access to
climate conversations, we are giving them the opportunity to build on today’s work for a cleaner
and equitable future.”
In addition to being able to attend climate sessions and other activities, future leaders will
receive roundtrip airfare to Miami Beach, lodging accommodations and most meals during the
Future Leaders Climate Summit. The deadline to apply for the Future Leaders Climate Summit
is Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Selections will be announced by mid-December
2021. Organizers also welcome local applicants from South Florida who can address the
impacts of climate change at the host location.
We are committed to providing excellent public service and safety to all who live, work and play in our vibrant, tropical, historic community.
