“The Committee of Quality Education was established in 1999 to guide the city’s efforts towards providing the best education
possible in Miami Beach public schools. The committee is vested with the power and authority to make recommendations to the city
commissions and to investigate, develop and carry out plans to promote and ensure the provision of quality education in Miami
Beach public schools.”
Members Present: Mary Keinath, Joshua Levy, Elisheva Rogoff, Judith Berson-
Levinson, Tiffany Heckler, Karen Edelstein, Rachel Weissman, Beverly Heller,
Ivan Alvarez, Yvette Tache, and Lauren Cantor

1. C4P Referral to NQLC Virtual Tours of Schools – Nautilus
to be discussed on April 28
2. C4X Referral to Finance discuss extension of PreK Pilot
for 22-23 school year to be discussed on April 30
3. C4AE Referral to Finance discuss Super Bowl Host
Committee funds to Nautilus $20,000 to be discussed on
April 30
4. C7U Reso to allow installation of Bike Rack near MB
Public Schools in ROW – Transportation working with
school site principals
5. MBSH Courtyard Project $60,000 – CMB waiting on MDCPS
to provide next steps for City to provide infrastructure
components. Need agreement between MDCPS and CMB.
Safety / Traffic
• Schools update of PPE and future cost of maintenance – per Bonce
PPE available
• Safe opening for School year 2021/2022 – MDCPS no update
provided
Communication
• School Board update/Budget update/Legislation update provided

• Feeder Pattern Update provided
• Sub-committee budget to be scheduled (on hold)
• Youth Commission Community Outreach Program Update provided
- #MBHistory March 25, at 4 pm and April 15 at 4 pm
• Orange Bowl donation to MBNMS update discussed. MDCPS
indicated agreement with foundation was up to $20,000. As such
$9,000 had been spent.
• Update of STEAM partners working with Schools provided by Bass
staff
• Update of the usage of all the City enhancements in use this school
year provided for all program below and motion made to sustain all
programs.

SPE underway and MBSH access very restrictive for community.
• . Beach High courtyard donation status $60,000 CMB discussed earlier
in meeting. Don Bailey of MDCPS is contact.
Technology
• Testing capacity with schools current technology update provided
by MDCPS
Teacher Recruitment/Retention
• Sub teachers recruitment within the City discussed and motion
passed
Health / Mental Health
• Mental Health virtual and live access utilization information
provided. Request MDCPS share with community direct information
for mental health professionals funded by City at each school site
• Usage report of the Mental Health services provided by the City

The Committee for Quality Education requests the Mayor and City Commission recognize the
positive impact our educational enhancements have on our youth and community and request
to continue to fund and support all educational enhancements on Miami Beach for the next
school year.
The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above
request.

The Committee for Quality Education requests the Mayor and City Commission reinstate the
incentive program to recruit residents of Miami Beach to become substitute teachers for Miami
Beach public schools and offer them an incentive such as a citywide parking permit or funding of
the cost to attain a substitute teacher certification.
The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above
request.
