This Letter to Commission is to advise you that the Miami Beach Police Department will
be hosting a Law Enforcement Day with students from Florida Memorial University. Miami
Beach Police Department's Law Enforcement Officer Day, or LEO DAY, will take place
at Miami Beach Police Headquarters on Wednesday, February 24th · 2022 from 1 0am to
4pm.
The Miami Beach "LEO" Day provides a unique opportunity for students at Florida
Memorial University to ask questions and learn more about the department's hiring and
retention efforts, our police internship program , the Police Athletic League, and Crime
Scene Investigations . Students will get a tour of the Miam i Beach Police Department and
an opportunity to run through use of force scenarios on our tactics simulator w ith our Police
Instructors and Training Staff.
This program is formatted to acknowledge that most of the contacts law enforcement have
with the public happen during emergencies or emotional situations . These situations are
not always pleasant and often do not afford the officer the chance to enhance on the good
side of relationship building under the community oriented policing philosophy. The Miami
Beach "LEO" Day breaks down any barriers that would exist that prevent this fellowship
from occurring and allows for a more relaxed environment as it focuses on the one-on-
one interaction .
The "LEO" Day is also supported by the 100 Black Men of South Florida, the Black
Advisory Affairs Committee of Miami Beach, the Miami Center for Racial Justice and
