DEDICATION OF THE BASEBALL FIELDS AT NORTH SHORE PARK IN
HONOR OF MANNY LAFONT
The Parks and Recreation Department would like to invite the Honorable Mayor and
Commissioners to join us for the dedication of the baseball fields at North Shore Park (501
72nd Street) in honor of Manny Lafont on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 12:00 p.m.
Manny Lafont, a father and North Shore Park baseball coach, lost his life at the age of 54
during the tragic Surfside Champlain Tower collapse on June 24, 2021. Mr. Lafont was a
parishioner at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Miami Beach. North Shore Park was his
second home, which is where he coached his son’s baseball team and shared his passion.
He was known to have deeply cared about the development for all of the athletes that he
coached across the field.
With his passing, the kind gesture of naming the North Shore Park baseball fields was
proposed by the community and approved by the City Commission. The plaque will be
placed on a pedestal in the batting cage area where Mr. Lafont spent most of his time
coaching.
The dedication ceremony will include remarks made by Mr. Lafont’s family and the plaque
unveiling, which will be followed by a great afternoon of youth baseball.
Should you have additional questions, please contact Cindy Casanova at (305) 673-7730.
