SUBJECT: Stop the Bleed Kit Initiative Update
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to update you on the status of the City's initiative to
install Stop the Bleed medical kits in Miami Beach public schools. At the September 17, 2021
Commission meeting, the City approved funding for 349 kits at a cost of $20,000 with the Make
Our Schools Safe organization contributing another $15,000 and the office of Miami-Dade School
Board Member Lucia Baez-Geller contributing $2,000. The medical kits are equipped with
tourniquets, compression bandages and blood-clotting hemostatic gauze to control excessive
blood loss.
Installation of the kits at each Miami Beach public school will be completed by the end of February
2022, with training for teachers and staff scheduled throughout February and March 2022.
Additionally, Miami Beach police school liaisons and fire department personnel will participate in
the on-site trainings. It is anticipated that the following schools will receive the indicated number
of kits across all classrooms and common areas:
• Biscayne Beach Elementary -55 kits
• North Beach Elementary-69 kits
• Miami Beach South Pointe Elementary -44 kits
• Miami Beach Fienberg Fisher K-8 -70 kits
• Miami Beach Nautilus Middle School-74 kits
• Treasure Island Elementary -37 kits
A recognition ceremony at City Hall has been scheduled for Monday, February 28, 2022 at 10:00
am to acknowledge City partners who supported the achievement of this initiative.

culture, education, and business with management objectives of being known for (K-12)
educational excellence.
