SUBJECT: Calendar of Earth Month Celebrations
I am happy to announce that Earth Month is here! The City will be celebrating all month-long.
Together with our community partners, we will be hosting events to educate our residents, visitors,
and staff regarding the beauty of our natural resources and the importance of protecting our
environment.
• Friday, April 1 -We <3 Biscayne Bay Campaign Launch/Yappy Hour *Postponed*
Maurice Gibb Memorial Park (18 th Street and Purdy Ave)-5:00PM to 8:00PM
Out of an abundance of caution, the official launch of the We <3 Biscayne Bay
Campaign with a Yappy Hour has been postponed due to the spread of Canine
Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC). The highly contagious virus can
pose serious health risk to dogs. The event will be rescheduled to a later date and will
be launched in partnership with several commun ity partners.

• Friday, April 1 -Sea Turtle Season
April 1 -October 31
Sea Turtle season is officially here! Multiple city departments are collaborating to help
protect our favorite marine friends. The community is encouraged to reduce the impacts
to sea turtles by switching to sea turtle friendly lighting, closing blinds or curtains at
night, and keeping a distance from sea turtles and their nests.

• Monday, April 4 -Community Tree Giveaway *Registration required*
Online registration
In preparation for Arbor Day , the City will host a tree giveaway event. Registration for
this event will be launched on this day. The first 100 residents that register will be
eligible to have a tree personally delivered to their home by the Urban Forestry Division.
Deliveries will be carried out the last week of the month and tree options will include
multiple native fruit and flowering trees.

• Wednesday, April 6 -BE305 Kickoff
Zoom Meeting -9:00AM to 1 0:00AM
The BE305 (Building Efficiency 305) program is kicking off its second cohort . BE305 is a
free, voluntary program focused on increasing energy and water efficiency in large
buildings across the County. Properties that register to the BE305 program will receive
guidance and educational resources through the process of benchmarking their energy

and water consumption and can participate in trainings with tips on low-cost to no-cost
measures to reduce energy and water consumption.

• Saturday, April 9-Fieldwork: Tours, presented by Misael Soto
Maurice Gibb Memorial Park (18 th Street and Purdy Ave)-2:00PM to 6:00PM
Fieldwork is a series of programming created by local artist, Misael Soto. Misael's goal
is to spark dialogue between participants and the environment. Each Fieldwork provides
ins ight into a location's history and its place in our contemporary community. For this
event, participants will be able to engage in tours via trolley or boat to learn about the
Venetian Islands from a unique perspective.

• Thursday, April 13 -Solar Co-op Launch

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will lead the launch of the new solar
co-op for homeowners and small businesses across the County. Managed by Solar
United Neighbors (SUN) of Florida, a solar co-op brings participants together to bundle
their buying power together and secure a volume discount on rooftop solar PV systems.

• Thursday, April 21 -Earth Day at Miami Beach Botanical Garden
Miami Beach Botanical Gardens (2000 Convention Center Drive) -5:30PM to 8:30PM
The Miami Beach Botanical Garden 's (MBBG) will be hosting an Earth Day celebration
which will include a plant give-away, yoga, and movie night on the lawn of the garden.
Attendees will learn more about the many initiatives the City and MBBG have partnered
on including composting, native landscaping, and pollinators .

As part of the 40th annive rsary of Baynanza, Miami-Dade County will be engaging
thousands of community volunteers throughout the county in cleaning approximately 25
locations along Biscayne Bay's shorelines and islands, including Maurice Gibb Park,
Flagler Memorial Island (Monument Island), and the Julia Tuttle Causeway. Volunteers

• Friday, April 30 -Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony & Proclamation
Pinetree Park (4493 Collins Avenue) -Time TBD
Miami Beach will celebrate Arbor Day with a proclamation and through the planting of
several trees in Normandy Shores Park . This ceremony will promote the importance of
the urban forest and will re-qualify the city to receive the Tree City USA designation.
Miami Beach has held this designation for 15 years, a testament to our community 's
hard work to protect our vital tree canopy .
