Hudak, City Managrov April 4, 2022 ()>\ � )Date: Subject: Prekindergarten Program Update 2022-23 The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to update you on the status of the City of Miami Beach's Prekindergarten (PreK) Program for Miami Beach residents for the 2022-2023 school year, approved at the May 12, 2021 Commission meeting. The Prekindergarten Program will expand hourly access to high quality PreK providers by providing up to $2,700 to 92 eligible Miami Beach families in 2022-23. A computerized lottery was held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 to place all resident applicants in a numerical order for stipend receipt. There were 160 applications submitted of which 11 were duplicates yielding 149 applications. Staff from the Office of Organizational Development Performance Initiatives (Education) have been gathering required information from all applicants to ensure eligibility and PreK enrollment. The chart below provides the status of all applications as of April 4, 2022: Total# of PreK 2022-23 Applicants 149 # Eligible Applicants 137 # Ineligible Applicants 12 # Applicants Approved to receive $2,700 92 stipend in 2022-23 # Applicants on wait list (no funds available) 45 Applicants on the wait list are aware that the $250,000 funds allocated for the 2022-23 school year have been encumbered. The PreK website located at www.miamibeachfl.gov/prek provides an overview of the program, lottery results, and provider information (Attachment A).
