A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION-OF-THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
CANVASSING BOARD FOR THE AUGUST 23, 2022 PRIMARY ELECTION TO
SERVE AS THE CANVASSING BOARD FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH'S
SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON AUGUST 23, 2022.
WHEREAS, on August 23, 2022, Miami-Dade County ("County") will be conducting the
Primary Election, at which time the City of Miami Beach has authorized a Special Election to be
held, in order to submit ballot questions to the electorate of the City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is charged with the full responsibility of conducting the
subject Election, except for accepting Miami-Dade County's Certificate of Election Results
concerning the City of Miami Beach's Special Election, which duty is within the Miami Beach City
Commission's purview; and
WHEREAS,the Miami-Dade County Canvassing Board for the County's August 23, 2022
Primary Election is charged with the statutory responsibilities relating to the conduct of the
subject Election and is hereby further authorized to act consistently with said responsibilities as
the Canvassing Board for the City of Miami Beach's August 23, 2022 Special Election.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, that the Miami-Dade County Canvassing
Board for the August 23, 2022 Primary Election is hereby authorized to serve as the Canvassing
Board for the City of Miami Beach's August 23, 2022 Special Election.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 4th day of May 2022.

RECOMMENDATION
Approve the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
On August 23, 2022, Miami-Dade County("County')will be conducting the Primary Election, at
which time the City of Miami Beach may authorize a Special Election to be held,to submit ballot
questions to the electorate of the City of Miami Beach. Miami-Dade County is charged with the
full responsibility of conducting the subject Election, except for accepting Miami-Dade County's
Certificate of Election Results concerning the City of Miami-3Beach's Special Election, which a
duty is within the Miami Beach City Commission's purview.
The Miami-Dade County Canvassing Board for the County's August 23, 2022 Primary Election
is charged with the statutory responsibilities relating to the conduct of the subject Election and is
hereby further authorized to act consistently with said responsibilities as the Canvassing Board
for the City of Miami Beach's August 23,2022 Special Election.
The attached Resolution has thus been prepared for the purpose of formally authorizing the
Miami-Dade County Canvassing Board to serve as the Canvassing Board for the City of Miami
Beach's August23,2022 Special Election.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION
The Miami-Dade County Elections Department has provided the City Clerk with an estimate of
approximately$28,499.90 (Cost Estimate for One Page Ballot)and $56,449.80 (Cost Estimate
in the Scenario Multiple Questions Triggers an Additional Page) to conduct the August 23,
2022 Special Election, which includes the costs associated with 14 days of Early Voting. (See
Department of Election Estimates.) Additionally, the City will incur approximately $42,000 in
legally mandated advertisements, required by the Florida Statutes and the City Code, to notice

this Special Election.

CONCLUSION
