A d BEACH AMENDMENT 1 City of Miami Beach Cultural Affairs Program and.Cultural Arts Council Fiscal Year 2020/21 Cultural Affairs Grant Agreement ,JUN 1 5 2022 This Amendment No. 1 to the Cultural Affairs Grant Agreement(the"Agreement"), dated Av5 IS , 2021, by and between the City of Miami Beach, Florida (the"City"), a municipal corporation duly organized and existing under the laws of the State of Florida, Orchestra Miami, Inc..a Florida not-for-profit corporation (the "Grantee") is entered into on this day of July, 2021. RECITALS WHEREAS, the City and Grantee executed the Agreement to fund activities during the `City's fi scat year for which'the Grant is approved (October`t,2020 through September 30,2021); and WHEREAS, on March 12, 2020 the City of Miami Beach cancelled public gatherings due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in the closure of cultural facilities and suspension of cultural programming; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the Agreement, a written Final Report, which documents the Grantee's.satisfaction of•alt.requirements,:is•due no later than October 15,-2021;and WHEREAS,the-Parties wish to extend the Grand funding•period inorderto permitGrantee to complete the Grant activities. Ludwig van Beethoven, with a 3-month long celebration entitled "Beethoven for Miami". "Beethoven for Miami" includes pop-up concerts featuring the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, conversations about Beethoven's art and why it is still relevant today&screenings of films about Beethoven. The celebration concludes on Sat, Dec. 12, 2020, in Collins Park with a free beach- front performance of Beethoven's.Symphony N..9 in D Minor,Op_ 125 with a combined chorus of over 400 singers & the 55 musicians of Orchestra Miami led by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi. The choir will consist of the combined choruses from Florida International University, Barry University,the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami. A major feature of the 9th symphony is its vocal soloists. Four world-class soloists have been invited to perform with the orchestra on this important occasion.'Soprano Elaine Alvarez is a Miami native who has sung at theaters on 3 continents. In June of 2019, Ms. Alvarez made her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as Aida, led by legendary conductor Riccardo Muti. Other notable engagements include Cecilia Valdez for the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid,Tosca with Choregies d'Orange &Opera de Oviedo; Kat'a Kabanova with Boston Lyric Opera; Mimi for Opera National de Bordeaux;Florencia en el Amazonas with the San Diego Opera&many others. Mezzo-soprano Marianne Cornett' is one of the leading Verdi mezzo-sopranos of her generation. Since 1991, bass baritone Kevin Short has appeared annually with the Metropolitan Opera,most recently in the role of Porgy in the critically acclaimed new production of Porgy and Bess.lie has performed at literally all of the major opera houses in the United States & Canada, as well as having sung extensively throughout Europe. The Dec. 12th performance in Collins Park will be the conclusion of Orchestra Miami's Beethoven cycle, where all of Beethoven's symphonies have been performed for free in Miami Beach at Orchestra Miami's annual "Beethoven on the Beach" concerts.
