Re: R9-B. A resolution of the board of Palm View Neighborhood Association:
The Palm View Neighborhood Association asks the Miami Beach City Commission to fill the vacancy created
by the passing of Commissioner Mark Samuelian by holding an election as soon as possible.
The next Commissioner should not be appointed, nor should there be a hybrid appointment that would last
until an election is held in November 2023.
Residents of Miami Beach deserve to be able to choose their own candidates for Commission seats.
Elections, not appointments, should be the preferred and exclusive method for filling Commission seats that
are vacated early. Given the scheduled election in November, there is sufficient time for interested
candidates to file and share their views for the future of Miami Beach with voters. Combining this election
with the national Mid Term elections guarantees the best participation of the residents.
