Discussion Of Filling Vacancy On Commission
July 8, 2022
The Park View Island Sustainab le Association urges the Miami Beach City
Comm ission to fill the vacancy created by the passing of profoundly resident -
centric Comm issioner Mark Samue li an by holding an election to fill the seat this
fall.
1
Residents of Miami Beach deserve to be able to choose their own candidates
for Commission seats. E lections, not appointments, should be the preferred and
exclusive method for filling Commission seats that are vacated early. Given the
scheduled election in November, there is sufficient time for interested
candidates to file and share their views on the future of Miami Beach with
voters.
The reason is simple -if the Commissioners, not the residents, are the "voters"
on this selection, then the selection will be made by people not all of whom
necessarily put the residents' quality of life first.
Let's give ourselves, our families, and our City, the best chances of fair and
equitable resident representation our City Commission can offer.
Special City Commission meeting on Friday, July 8 at 9 a.m.
