SUBJECT : International Coastal Cleanup Day 2022
I am pleased to announce that the City of Miami Beach is collaborating with
Volunteercleanup .org for the Ocean Conservancy's 37 th Annual International Coastal
Cleanup Day on September 17, 2022 . The event brings together volunteers to collect
litter and debris on roadsides, coastal areas, lakes and waterways throughout the U.S.
The mission of Ocean Conservancy is to educate the public on issues of maritime
pollution and to use the information collected from the cleanup to help drive policy. Last
year, over 220,000 volunteers from this international event collected over 5 million
pounds of litter. Miami-Dade had a total of 2,984 participants that collected 17,771
pounds of trash.
This year, there will be 9 cleanup sites throughout

The City of Miami Beach team including Parks and Recreation , Ocean Rescue, Facilities
Management, Public Works -Sanitation , and Environment and Sustainability will
collaborate with event organizers to support the event with city services .
The Environment & Sustainability Department will lead the cleanup site at 53 rd Street on
the beach and will be joined with participants from the Police Department and additional
departments are encouraged to join. Employees are invited to participate in the cleanup
with their families and friends . The Communications and Marketing Department is
sharing the event through digital communication channels to encourage resident
participation.
