SUBJECT : City of Miami Beach Recognized by NAFA Green Fleet Awards
The purpose of this Letter to Commission ("L TC") is to provide the Mayor and City Commission
with an announcement recognizing the City of Miami Beach with the Green Fleet Award by the
National Association of Fleet Administrators ("NAFA").
NAFA is the world's largest membership association for individuals who manage the vehicular fleet
and mobility responsibilities for their employers . NAFA propels the fleet and mobility profession
through its world-class certification, education, advocacy, and peer-networking programs . It is an
essential element of success for individuals involved in the profession . NAFA members control
more than 4 .6 million vehicles and manage assets in excess of $100 billion. These vehicles travel
more than 50 billion miles annually.
NAFA's Green Fleet Awards (www .nafa.org/awards/green-fleet-awards/) is open to both
government and commercial fleets in North America. Government fleets consist of all federal, state,
and local government fleets, including fleets that are operated by local government personnel or
contracted services. The Green Fleet Award is a comprehensive set of criteria specifically tailored
around the challenges and requirements of fleet professionals. Judging criteria includes dedicated
alternative fuel and hybrid vehicle composition, fuel usage, fuel savings, purchasing policy, long-
range planning, and other areas .
On August 30, 2022, the City of Miami Beach Fleet Division was ranked 44th among the Green
Fleets in North America. This honor was announced at NAFA's 2022 Sustainable Fleet Technology
Conference & Expo in Durham, North Carolina . The program recognizes peak-performing fleet
sustainability efforts and honors fleets who have enhanced practices to make a positive impact on
the environment. Now in its 15th year, this annual honor recognizes organizations that execute
groundbreaking and inventive programs for their green initiatives.
The City of Miami Beach is the only city in all Miami-Dade County and one of only three
municipalities in the State of Florida to be recognized and bestowed this honor.
The City's Fleet operations became a division under the Facilities and Fleet Management
Department in January 2021. Through strategic initiatives, the Division has implemented
sustainable solutions, capital planning for greener fleet, and procuring fuel-efficient vehicles to
enhance the level of service provided to the City's user departments. The Green Fleet Award is a
much deserved and great achievement. I would like to thank our Facilities and Fleet Management,
Procurement, Information Technology , Environment and Sustainability, and Miami Beach Police
Department for their collaboration in achieving more green initiatives for our City.
