SUBJECT: Miami Beach Police Set to Provide Mutual Aid to Areas Affected by Hurricane Ian
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to advise you of support being
provided by the Miami Beach Police Department to areas impacted by Hurricane Ian.
Our police department has been in .close communication with the Florida Police Chiefs
Association (FPCA), Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), and Miami-Dade
Association of Chiefs of Police (MDACP) and is preparing to deploy to jurisdictions
affected by Hurricane Ian. As part of the Statewide Emergency Response Plan, Chief
Clements has authorized the initial deployment of twenty-five Miami Beach police
officers that will depart Miami Beach on Saturday, October 1st. Assistant Chief Paul
Acosta will lead this first contingent during week one while Deputy Chief Wayne Jones
will follow with the second contingent deployed the following week. Officers will travel to
Lee County, Florida, to assist the Fort Myers and Cape Coral Police Departments.
The police department's initial commitment is for fourteen days and is divided into two
seven-day missions. The commitment will be reassessed during their deployment.
Employees from Facilities and Fleet Management will also join our police officers .
The resources being deployed to the impacted areas have been strategically chosen
and will not affect the police department's ability to staff shifts. Please join me in thanking
our first responders for their courage and commitment in assisting the community during
this difficult time.
