SUBJECT: TRANSIT SERVICE GRANT AWARDS
The Transportation and Mobility team is excited to report a grant award of $1.25 million
for operation of the South Beach Trolley service and $158,000 for operation of the Middle
Beach on-demand transit (Freebee) service in fiscal year 2024 (attachment) from the
Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT) public transit service development
program.
The FOOT grant program is designed to provide up to three years start-up funding for
new public transit projects and can cover up to 50% of the operating costs of the service.
The City has secured over $6.5 million under this grant program since 2014; and the
funds have been used for the operation of the Miami Beach Trolley service and the Middle
Beach on-demand transit service.

The Florida Department ofTransportation (FOOT) conducted an evaluation of your submitted proposal per
Sections 341.051, 20.23(3)(a) and 334.048(3), Florida Statutes (F.S.), and Rule Chapter 14-73, Florida
Administrative Code (F.A.C.), Public Transportation. Based on the established criteria and available funding
sources, City of Miami Beach has been awarded Service Development Program funds for the below project:

$5,001,451.00
Awarded Funding
$1,250,000.00
Please be advised that the funding award cited above requires local funds from the City of Miami Beach to
match the State funds programmed for this project. Therefore, please provide certification of available
local funds in the amount of $3,751,451.00 to the District no later than January 1, 2023. Funding is subject
to the availability of an annual appropriation by the Florida Legislature (the spending authority). Prior to
commencement of any work or services, City of Miami Beach must enter into a State Funded Agreement
with FOOT.
