A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
SUPPORTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION AND THE
CULTURAL ARTS COUNCIL'S APPROVAL OF THE
RENTAL WAIVER APPLICATION BY MUSICIAN NICOLE
HENRY, IN THE APPROXIMATE AMOUNT OF $2,000,
FOR THE PURPOSES OF HOLDING THE 9111 ANNUAL
WINTER CONCERT PRESENTED AT THE COLONY
THEATRE ON DECEMBER 8, 2022; AND WAIVING UP TO
$4,000 FOR TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONAL COSTS OF
THE CONCERT, TO BE PAID OUT OF THE COMMUNITY
BENEFIT FUND.
WHEREAS, on November 8, 2022, there will be the 9th Annual Winter Concert of Miami
Beach's own award-winning, international jazz vocalist Nicole Henry (the "Concert"); and
WHEREAS, the theme for the 9th Annual Winter Concert will be "WHEN I THINK OF
HOME," with songs ranging from in style/genre from jazz, pop, holiday, R&B, love songs, and
gospel; and
WHEREAS, Nicole Henry will front a band of four to eight musicians, and read her
annually revised "Twas the Night Before Christmas 2022" comic poem; and
WHEREAS, Nicole Henry has developed a South Florida following since starting her
singing career on Miami Beach in 2001, then quickly being named "Best Solo Musician" by New
Times in 2002; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Henry also has a U.S. & international fanbase, having toured twenty
(20) countries and released eight(8) albums; and
WHEREAS, having received the required paperwork for a rental waiver for the Colony
Theater, the City Administration has placed the waiver request on the November 3, 2022
Cultural Arts Council Meeting agenda; and
WHEREAS, the Colony Theatre advised the City Administration that the total cost of the
concert, including rental costs, and technical and operational costs, will amount to no more than
$6,000; and
WHEREAS, rental waiver requests at the Colony Theatre are funded through the
Community Benefit Fund, and the Cultural Arts Council has the authority to waive the rental
costs, which are estimated to be $2,000; and
WHEREAS; the Mayor and City Commission wish to express support for the Cultural
Arts Council's consideration of Nicole Henry's rental waiver application, as the concert has both,
cultural and public purpose and value; and
WHEREAS, in addition, the Mayor and City Commission wish to waive the remaining
$4,000 for technical and operational support for the concert, including, but not limited to,
lighting, stage hands, ushers, and other concert personnel, to be paid out of the Community
Benefit fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby support the City Administration and Cultural Arts Council's approval of the
rental waiver application by musician Nicole Henry, in the approximate amount of$2,000, for the
purposes of holding the 9th Annual Winter Concert presented Dade at the Colony Theatre on
December 8, 2022; and waive up to $4,000 for technical and operational costs of the concert, to
be paid out of the Community Benefit fund.
