Miami Beach to Show Solidarity with People of Ukraine
— Miami Beach City Hall will light up in the colors of the Ukrainian flag —
Miami Beach, FL – Miami Beach City Hall will be bathed in blue and yellow lights on Monday
night in a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people who have been invaded by the Russian
military under the control of President Vladimir Putin.
“We have all been gripped by this incredible story of oppression and one man’s insatiable thirst
for power,” explained Miami Beach Commissioner Mark Samuelian, who requested the action.
“The bravery and patriotism being displayed by the Ukrainian people are truly an inspiration.”
Other cities like New York, Los Angeles, Paris and London have shown similar displays of
solidarity since Russian troops overran the neighboring Ukrainian borders last week without
any apparent provocation, sending refugees fleeing into Poland and elsewhere.
“As a refugee myself, who vividly remembers my family’s departure from Cuba with one
suitcase, I am very pleased that we are able to demonstrate this moment of solidarity,” added
Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak. “Our prayers continue to be with the people of the
Ukraine and all who suffer around the world.”
Miami Beach City Hall is located at 1700 Convention Center Dr. Sunset is expected to arrive at
6:22 p.m. on Monday.
