Miami Beach Lights Up Blue and White
to Celebrate Israel’s Independence
— View the Tribute at City Hall and MBPD Headquarters —
Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach will light up blue and white tonight, May 5 to
commemorate Israel’s 74th Independence Day. Miami Beach City Hall and Miami Beach Police
Headquarters will be bathed in blue and white lights starting at sundown.
“Israel Independence Day is a celebration of the Jewish state’s history, continued strength and
sovereignty,” said Mayor Dan Gelber. “We stand with Israel today and always.”
Celebrated on the fifth day of the Hebrew month of Iyar or in proximity to that date, Israel’s
Independence Day is always celebrated the day after Memorial Day for Israel’s fallen soldiers
and victims of hostile acts. It commemorates the day on which David Ben-Gurion announced
the establishment of the State of Israel upon the termination of the British Mandate.
