Miami Beach Officials to Hold Street Sign Unveiling
for Elie Wiesel Way
— Wiesel’s work as an author, philosopher and humanist earned him the Nobel Prize —
Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach will hold a street sign unveiling for Elie Wiesel
Way at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 along the northwest corner of Pride Park at 1700
Convention Center Dr.
“Elie Wiesel’s life was not only about telling the Jewish story during World War II—it was about
bearing witness to man’s inhumanity to man so that we may never repeat it,” shared Miami
Beach Commissioner David Richardson. “It is our honor to recognize Mr. Wiesel with this
permanent Miami Beach landmark.”
The press is invited to join the Miami Beach Mayor & Commission, Miami-Dade County
Commissioner Eileen Higgins, philanthropist Norman Braman, Holocaust survivor Allan Hall,
City Manager Alina Hudak and others as they celebrate Wiesel’s remarkable life.
Wiesel was a Romanian-born Jewish American political activist, professor and author of 57
books, including his memoir “Night,” which was based on his experiences as a prisoner in the
Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps and has since been translated into more than
30 languages. His work earned Wiesel the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1986.
