A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, WAIVING SPECIAL EVENT FEES, IN THE TOTAL
AMOUNT OF $5,333.95 FOR THE GROUNDUP MUSIC FESTIVAL TO BE
HELD ON FEBRUARY 3-5, 2023, AT THE NORTH BEACH BANDSHELL AND
THE ADJACENT PARK.
WHEREAS, the Rhythm Foundation, Inc., the applicant for the GroundUP Music
Festival, is a Florida not -for -profit corporation that presents quality community -based programs,
concerts, events, and festivals that feature established and innovative artists from South Florida
and around the world; and
WHEREAS, during February 3-5, 2023, The Rhythm Foundation, Inc. will present the
annual GroundUP Music Festival, featuring such artists as a four -time Grammy -winners Snarky
Puppy, acclaimed by Rolling Stone Magazine as "one of the most versatile bands on the
planet," who will play daily sets and world -premiere new music and offer intimate masterclasses
and workshops along with other performing festival artists including: Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco), Nai
Palm (of Hiatus Kaiyote), Madison Cunningham, Lizz Wright, Louis Cato (Musical Director of
Late Show with Stephen Colbert), Kurt Rosenwinkel's Caipi, Keyon Harrold, Isaiah Sharkey,
and many more and many others; and
WHEREAS, the Festival will be held at the North Beach Bandshell and the adjacent
park, and more than 700 hotel room bookings are expected from attendees of the GroundUP
Music Festival, with more than .fifty percent of the audience coming from outside of the State of
Florida, including sixteen percent coming from outside the country; and
WHEREAS, Festival organizers requested for the City to waive the special events fees;
and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to approve the waiver of special event
fees, in the total amount of $5,333.95, for the GroundUP Music Festival, which represents
$4,185 in square footage fees, $286 in application fee, and $862 in permitting fees; and
WHEREAS, the waiver approved herein shall be applied as a credit against any
remaining amounts due to City, with any remaining balance, if any, refunded to the Event
Organizer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby waive special event fees, in the total amount of $5,333.95 for the
GroundLIP Music Festival to be held February 3-5 2023, at the North Beach Bandshell and the
adjacent park.
