SUBJECT: Unveiling of Miami Beach Police K-9 Training Facility
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission is to inform you of the opening of our first K-
g training facility in Miami Beach. The facility is located within a plot of FOOT land along
the 4000 block of Alton Road, leased annually to the City of Miami Beach. A portion of this
land is being used for the K-9 training facility. The facility encompasses approximately 1/4
acre and will be outfitted with training equipment and an obstacle course to enhance the
development and training of the police department's K-9s.
The Miami Beach K-9 Knights are a not-for-profit organization celebrating their 10
anniversary with the Miami Beach Police Department. Since their inception, the Knights
have supported our K-9 officers by generously donating the K-9s, the ballistic vests, and
the equipment needed to train them. Currently, the Department has ten police K-9s, all of
which have been donated by the Knights. During this 10-year partnership, the Knights
have donated twenty K-9s, some of which have since retired.
We encourage each of you to attend this event, highlighting our commitment to safety.
The police department is planning a fun afternoon with food, demonstrations, and an
opportunity to get to know our K-9 officers, their handlers, and the K-9 Knights.
