LETTER TO COMMISSION
Honorable Mayor Dan Gelwer and Me bers of the City Commission Alina T. Hudak, City Mana e March 23, 2023 Elevate Espanola -Very Moving by Jillian Mayer (April-June 2023)
The purpose of this letter to the Mayor and Commission is to provide an update regarding the third
Elevate Espanola temporary public art commission.
Elevate Espanola is a dedicated art presentation site that commissions installations suspended
above the historic Espanola Way corridor, providing pedestrian connectivity between Espanola
Way and Ocean Drive. Featuring two projects annually, Elevate Espanola plays an important role
in bringing contemporary art to one of the most publicly visible areas of Miami Beach.
For its Spring 2023 installation, Miami based conceptual
artist Jillian Mayer will present a kinetic sculpture and
painting show above Miami Beach through a system of
mobiles and spinning artworks. For this temporary public
project, Mayer says that the movement of the artwork is the
art piece. With a nod to society's bombardment of images,
messages, and content, Mayer uses Very Moving to create
a constant flow of information for the audience that will never
be able to see the entire choreography of the piece all at
once.
Please join us for the opening reception, which will be held
during Culture Crawl on Thursday, April 20 th at 6 PM on
Espanola Way between Washington and Collins
Avenues. The exhibition will be on view April 3-June 30, 2023.
The Art in Public Places Committee has recommended future commissions to include site specific
commissions by Assume Vivid Astro Focus, Beatriz Chachamovits and Jen Stark.
